Marlborough Community Hospice covers Blenheim, Picton and the Marlborough Sounds. The purpose-built four-bed inpatient facility opened for service delivery in November 2003 with community palliative care, including assessment/care co-ordination and domiciliary care starting in 2005. Demand for palliative care is increasing and a major extension project was completed in October 2009 to meet the need. The in-patient unit now has six beds and improved facilities including a purpose built quiet room and additional working areas for staff and volunteers.
The Salvation Army is the contracted service provider while the Marlborough Hospice Trust owns and is responsible for costs associated with the service and facility. The Marlborough Hospice Trust and Marlborough Hospice Foundation both fundraise to support the hospice now and into the future.
