Hospice South Canterbury provides specialist palliative care to patients and their family/whanau. Emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs are met for each individual while in their unique palliative phase of their life.
Our inpatient unit provides 24 Hr care, 7 days per week 365 days a year. Our Clinical Services Manager with the support of a Medical Officer manages the Hospice Service.Our Family Support Councillor works closely with our Clinical and Medical Staff, patients and their families and whanau. Professionally trained nurses staff the Unit with the assistance of volunteers. Our Staff supports the patient and families in their own home, enabling families to care for their dying relative in the place they choose. The Hospice Chaplain is available to patients and family and a trained Bereavement Support Team under the direction of our Family Support Councillor work with families following death of a loved one. Accommodation to out of town family is available.
Volunteers are the backbone of our services we could not provide the standard of care we do without their invaluable input into every aspect of our service. Volunteers assist in all areas of our service along with fundraising which includes our shop which sells quality second hand clothing, furniture and bric a brac and is situated next to the Hospice on Orbell Street.
All our services are offered free to the patient during what is a very stressful time in ones life, We also support families at this time helping them to attain a degree of preparation for the death of their loved one that is satisfactory to them.
